Who we are
We (SABESS COE) are a regional knowledge and innovation hub hosted at Mzuzu University, Malawi. With support from the Global Energy Alliance, the Centre was established in 2025 to advance energy access and resilience through training, research, and support for battery storage systems across Southern Africa. Malawi Battery Storage for Grid Stability
Malawi’s first grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is helping strengthen the country’s electricity grid while supporting the transition toward a more reliable and sustainable energy future.
As renewable energy generation continues to grow, battery storage is becoming essential for maintaining grid stability and improving power reliability.
